Arise, O Soul WednesdayAt the start of each session of Awake, O Soul Wednesday, we begin by first centering our spirits in prayer. Commonly referred to as the Jesus Prayer, you can practice this at any time, at any place, as the need arises.

Find a quiet space.

Sit comfortably with your spine erect.

Close your eyes, and begin with this deep-breathing exercise commonly referred to as the Jesus Prayer:

As you draw in your breath, say (either orally or mentally), “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God”.

Hold it for a few seconds, then release with the words “Have mercy on me.”

We will practice this exercise for a total of three times.

Be aware of your breathing process. Do you notice your heart rate slowing? Are you feeling calmer and less anxious or upset?

Unlike other forms of meditation, we aren’t simply emptying our minds or clearing our heads of unwanted thoughts.

We pray in this way, so as to welcome God’s healing presence.
