Lenten Opportunities

The season of Lent is a wonderful time for us to pause and reflect, to repent which means to turn.  The reading from Isaiah on Ash Wednesday confronts us with the idea that we can serve our own interests while fasting and taking on a discipline while still oppressing others.  The passage gives us a sense of the positive places where our disciplines can lead us. I think that Lent is a time for us to look both inward and outward, taking time to ask ourselves questions about our walk with God and neighbor.  How are we called as individuals and a community to “loose the bonds of injustice to undo the thongs of the yoke to let the oppressed go free?”  St. Thomas offers a number of opportunities to serve and reflect during Lent.
