These conversational, online sessions will focus discussions around The Accommodation a compelling exploration of pivotal moments and figures that shaped the African American experience. It is a powerful, long-repressed classic of Dallas history which examines the violent and suppressed history of race and racism in the city in which many of us live. Written by longtime Dallas political journalist Jim Schutze, formerly of the Dallas Times Herald and Dallas Observer, and currently columnist at D Magazine, The Accommodation follows the story of Dallas from slavery throughthe Civil Rights Movement, and the city’s desegregation efforts in the 1950s and ‘60s. Vocal Recital & Presentation – Dr. Erica Vernice Simmons Sunday, Feb 11 at Noon Following the 10:30am Church Service in the Parish Hall Everyone is invited to the Parish Hall for light refreshments immediately following the service. Hear Dr. Erica Vernice Simmons, lyric soprano, perform and give an insightful perspective as a Black musician. Dr. Simmons is an Adjunct Professor of Voice and Lecturer at Tarrant County College Northeast Campus. She recently earned her doctoral degree from the University of North Texas. Most recently, Professor Simmons presented a Black Heritage Recital featuring classical compositions by black composers atthe Texoma Artist Series Conference for the National Associationof the Teachers of Singing (NATS). She has performed as asoloist in a virtual concert of His Light Still Shines and in the Porgy and Bess opera with Fort Worth Opera. He is a Christian theologian and Retired Senior Pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church (1989-2022). He is also the Founder and President at Faith Commons and Lead Advisor and Adjunct Professor at Baptist House of Studies-Perkins School of Theology at SMU.

This one-of-a-kind museum is devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural and historical materials, including one of the largest African American Folk Art collections in the US. Don’t miss Tenor Soloist, Kevin Sutton, at the 10:30am service this Sunday, Dec. 10. Kevin is an Indiana native and received his early training at Ball State University. He holds the Master of Church Music degree from Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, TN. He pursued post graduate study at the University of North Texas; and has studied with such noted teachers as Max van Egmond, Nancy Zylstra and Krister Solèn. He has enjoyed a long and varied career as soloist, conductor, teacher and pianist. Kevin is founding musical director of Second Chance Players, a theater company dedicated to persons in recovery and their allies.
